This is it!! Your final week of 8th grade classes. You should be proud of the amount of reading we accomplished this year in English (10 books!!). Along with our writing conferences with Mr. Safdieh; I think we had an excellent year!!
Here are the final short response questions that you will see on the final exam on June 1.
The Diary of Anne Frank
5. To the best of your knowledge, what is racial profiling? If a government feels that a specific group of people is threatening to the nation as a whole, is it justifiable to expel or detain them? Can you think of any modern examples of racial profiling?
Kidnapped!
6. In your opinion, who is the main character in Kidnapped!? Is it David Balfour or Alan Brecht? Give three reasons for your choice and be sure to use details from the reading.
Great Expectations
5. Great Expectations is a book of shocking connections and surprising revelations. Which connection or revelation did you find the most shocking? Explain why, use specific evidence from the story.
6. As we have discussed, Great Expectations has two endings. Discuss which ending you prefer and explain why. Which ending is more satisfying? Which is truer to the themes of the book?
EXTRA CREDIT: TDOAF
Write a two paragraph summary of any of the characters in the play. The first paragraph should cover life before the hideout, the second should tell about what happens after they are captured. Each paragraph must be six or more sentences. DO NOT cut and paste. Include the link to the website you used. DO NOT use the same character you used in your literary flyer. This is due Wednesday, May 25. No later.
